Hi Team,
I've decided to continue this blog with things that happen on the weekend. Let's hope something exciting happens each weekend. I also plan on visiting different places around Canada so, we'll keep the cross Canada theme... the flag will come along for ride as well.
Up First!
HAMILTON ONTARIO!
Home of McMaster U, Factories, and the lovely Jocelyn.
Apples, Elephants and Flats, oh my!
First off, who doesn't love Fall, honestly.... It's so great! It smells awesome, it looks awesome, you get to pull out all your warm clothes...it just has an all round nice feeling...i love it, and wish it were longer.
Anyway.
I hopped on the bus from Toronto to Hamilton on Sunday, camera, rainboots and knapsack ready!
I met Jocelyn in Hamilton and we were READY, farm map in hand!
The plan was to visit three farms, two for apples and one for a corn maze. We made it to two, but I'll explain.
Farm ONE:
APPLES, you know that smell when you walk into a store on a farm? The smells that makes you want to eat absolutely every apple product they sell because it smells so good? Hopefully you know what i'm talking about. Everything smells great and everything is made of apples. So great.

Apple picking also makes me anxious for Halloween. I'm behind this year The costume is NOT ready. Don't talk to me about it. I'm already worried.
Anyway Joce and I picked some GREAT apples. I always love the people going apple picking. Here's a list of the typical apple pickers on Sunday afternoon.
1. Jocelyn and I
2, The hilarious family with young children who really aren't into picking apples but they are having a great time anyway. They're my favourite.
3. That city couple that decided to have a really great country weekend activity. She is usually wearing a well planned, day-in-the-country outfit. Jeans, wool socks and some type of stylish boot. Complete with wool sweater, vest, a wool hat with matching mittens. They don't really pick a lot of apples but take a lot of photos of each other.
4. The family that was excited to go apple picking, but someone fell in the mud and now no one is happy family. Muddy child is usually walk-stomping behind.
Joce and I picked out apples, bought our cider and pie and set out for farm number two... it's corn maze time.
We stopped in at Jocey's farm to dropped off our apple goods. The farm is SOOO COOL! complete with silo living room and out door kitchen.
So great.
Then it was on to the corn maze...
I'm pretty sure this is it.
http://www.hanescornmaze.com/

I was expecting a maze like the awful hedge maze on Centre Island....No way. These people go ALL out. 12 acres out!
So we arrived, the convo with the corn maze lady went like this:
"Have you been to the corn maze before?"
"Uummmm no."
" Oh! Ok, let me give you instructions and a map and if you get lost we do a sweep of the maze on Tuesday! Go to each check point and get the clue, then come back and solve the riddle"
Really? It's a corn maze... instructions, map? I don't care, this. is. amazing.
Oh no this maze was INTENSE! including 16 check points, four which were hidden and not included on the map...yeah a map in a maze, I thought it would sort of defeat the purpose but no, the map was needed. Each checkpoint was zodiac sign carved into the corn. Pretty great, but soon became the Most annoying thing in the world.

We were a little cocky at the beginning I must admit, we found the first two check points pretty easily. It wasn't until we found a look out post and realized how big this damn maze was. We thought we were walking through what we assumed to be the numbers 2010 but somehow ended up on the other side of the maze in the Leo lion's mane... the map was not very helpful after that. The corn got taller and more dense that we realized we were actually lost.
This was not what I signed up for.
We decided that we were not going to finish all the check points so decided to find a way out...we had other farms to visit.
so we followed the music that was playing at the entrance. We got out...somehow we ended up behind the farmers barn next to the chicken coop...this was obviously not where we were supposed to exit. I guess we weren't supposed to walk through the stalks....

But we managed to figure out the riddle even with our limited checkpoint clues (Really, "What's your sign?" Awesome) and even got our choice of bite size halloween candy prizes, sweet!
Peace out corn maze!
So have you ever had a flat tire? Cause we did, we weren't even out of the driveway when we realized something was wrong.
"Sooo, do you know how to change a tire?"
"Well I'm sure we could figure it out, I mean I've watched people do it before, but to be honest, It will probably take us longer to change it ourselves than if we just called CAA"
So we called up CAA. Now i'd never done this before but something tells me if you say HWY 5 outside of Hamilton, CAA should at least now that you're in Ontario...it took way to long to explain where we were. We weren't even that remote, There was a casino literally across the street...
So we waited, chatted with a friendly lady cop. She asked us a lot of questions, like who to call if we need help...911? No? No. *OPP is the right answer apparently.
Also, she was REALLY surprised that we didn't know how to change a tire. Now, I think if need be I would be able to change a tire, I can read a manual, but if CAA can do it properly and quickly, why not?!
She was really concerned for our safety, which was nice, but honestly, it was 4:30 in the afternoon, outside of a farm, a house and a casino...we were ok.

So the CAA man came and fixed out tire and we were off to enjoy out cider and pie! we didn't make it to the last farm. we decided it was too late and we had enough apples....
Now I think Jocelyn's farm fam's son has the greatest costume ever. he is dressing up and an Indian god while riding a horse dressed as an elephant....PLEASE. TAKE. PHOTOS. No better way to cap off a great fall themed Sunday afternoon than Halloween costumes, hot cider and pie and Jocelyn!
That's all from Hamilton and for now.
This weekend is Thanksgiving so I can only imagine what might happen when we all get together for dinner....it already smells fantastic upstairs... I love fall.
Have a great day!
