Oh Canada Oh Oh Oh Canada
Hi Team,
Big things happening this weekend, Oh and new Town update next week :)
But first:
Costume Party:
An event in which attendees alter their outward appearance in order to embody or present the image or character of another.
Costume Parties are fantastic. In fact I believe all parties should be costumed. Now don’t be confused, themed parties are great, but different. Themed parties do not require costume, however those who do dress up take theme parties to it a whole other level.
Common Theme Parties:
NYE, Tropical, Birthday, Christmas etc….
Now, costume parties on the other hand require people to wear clothes they normally might not. Costume parties differ from theme parties in that people’s costumes do not need any type of connection.
Common Custome Parties:
Halloween,
So what happens when these two amazing things combine (which occurs quite often)….bring in the ultimate
The COSTUMED THEMED PARTY….
The Costumed themed party is the ultimate combination. Why? because it’s amazing. Reasons:
1) They bring people together – having a costume makes talking to someone you don’t know much easier. Conversation can continue because you can discuss the theme!
2) Costumed theme parties allow people to be as creative as they want. The theme gives non creative a platform to jump off of while it makes really creative people think out of the box and go above and beyond.
3) They allow you to prove how cool you really are.
Now this last point may seem controversial but think back to the last Costumed or Themed Costume Party you went to… Now think of the best costume there….Was that person(s) awesome? Probably…
These parties happen quite often.
Examples:
Ugly Sweater Parties, Onesie Parites, Rockstar Parties and if you've been to Guelph: A night out at the Albion.
So what makes a lame costume. I’ve created a quick guide.
Lame?

Did you pick up a random costume from the kids section and put the word “sexy” in front of it? Did you dress up in a short skirt and wear a pair of animals ears to turn yourself into a “sexy” lion/cat/mouse etc?...Lame. Listen, there’s nothing wrong with being hot in your costume but here’s my challenge…find another way to do it. Really, put on your creativity hat…you can do it. You'll probably get more attention too....
Furthermore, did you find an ironic t-shirt or hat and pair it with jeans? Equally as lame. Again, turn on the imagination.
So you may be thinking….Kate why are you talking about Costume parties? Well friends, this weekend is THE weekend of
THE CANADIANA THEMED COSTUME PARTY 2011!

So how do you throw a Canadiana themed costume party? Well there are a few ways to go about it.
1) Go all out – stereotypical style. Maple leafs, snow, Lumberjacks, Hockey Players, Moose, rocks and Trees the whole nine yards.
2) Mix it up a little – play up something different, who knows it’s up to you, Canada’s a big place with a lot of different definitions.
Now this party was originally planned to happen after I cam home from my trip but things were a little busy so it’s been pushed back.
So what do you need for an all out stereotypical bash? Here’s what I’ve thought of:

-Canadian
-Moosehead
-Plenty of attractive hockey player references
-Maple everything
-Winter climate
-Rock and Tree setting complete with lake and dock
-CBC podcasts
-Group signings of the National Anthem
-Finally...Flashbacks to how great the Olympics were, who knows maybe I'll bring my Olympic DVDs...
Need a costume guide?
1-4 /10
-You picked up some last minute Olympic gear at the Bay or Zellers…only because you heard there were new mittens thanks to those new Alex Bilodeau radio commercials. The thought is there, but you can do better.
5-8
-Go for the classics – lumberjack, hockey player, Mountie, Beaver, Justin Beiber, Anne of Green Gables, the ideas are endless
9-10
-Go for gold: Olympians, Pierre Trudeau, you know, Canada’s heavyweights. I'll also through this challenge out there: somehow dress up as all 10 provinces and 3 territories... who knows...
Now anyone one of these costumes can take it to the next level, you know bring this costume up to 11 but that’s all in the details…I’ll leave that up to you to come up with. I have a feeling we could have a lot of 11s at this party.
I think this weekend has been well planned and not to worry I’ll post some excellent photos and a costume wrap up a little later along with a entry about the good old town of BANCROFT ONTARIO.
Until then Team!
Have a Great Day!
